Sunlight fades and brightens as the thicker (opacus) and thinner (translucidus) portions of this icy cloud move rapidly from the southwest. Altocumulus clouds, embedded in the altostratus cloud, can be seen at left. Heavy swells show that strong storms are offshore.Pigeon Point, California
