Career Opportunities
What can a student
with an Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences degree expect to do
upon graduation? Opportunities exist throughout the
world in a variety of careers. Government agencies
such as the National Weather Service, NASA, the
Environmental Protection Agency, and the military
employ forecasters and those graduates with a
background in the environment. In the private
sector, jobs exist in private weather forecasting
(such as for the Weather Channel or local TV and
radio stations) and in consulting. Many of our
graduates have gone on to become university faculty.
There are also ample opportunities to work in
research in various areas.
Some of the topics
you may be studying as a student are cloud physics,
lightning studies, weather forecasting, climate
studies, regional storm systems, radar meteorology,
fire meteorology, biogeochemistry, ecological
studies, carbon budgets, atmospheric chemistry,
remote sensing, numerical weather prediction, and
scientific visualization.
