Modifications to the superior maximum likelihood (ML) and L-moments (LM) techniques are needed to deal with practical problems of observations lacking data on very small drops (typical of most disdrometers). Means of assessing the goodness of fit of the resulting RSD functions will also be established. The methods will be tested on computer-simulated data (where the true population distributions are known) and on actual disdrometer samples.
